Invasive Species

Invasive species of weeds can cause problems for domestic and commercial land. We provide treatment for a wide range of invasive weed species. To find out more about what we can offer, please contact us and we can work together to put a plan together for a solution to suit your needs.

Japanese Knotweed

Japanese Knotweed is an invasive weed and can cause damage to your property and neighbouring plants.

It is now widely spread from river banks and into our gardens. At Universal Weed Control, we offer two very effective treatments for Japanese Knotweed.

Our first option is to apply a herbicide onto the plant, ideally during growth which is very effective.  Japanese Knotweed roots can reach up to 3 metres deep if not treated.

Our second option is to use specialist equipment with which we can apply the herbicide directly into the plant.  This will mean no drift or run-off onto neighbouring plants, plus the herbicide will travel into the root of the plant. It is also one of the only herbicide treatments that is not weather dependent.

Giant Hogweed

Giant hogweed is both invasive and potentially harmful. If in contact with skin, chemicals in the sap can cause the skin to become very sensitive to sunlight and may suffer blistering, pigmentation and long-lasting scars.

Ragwort

Ragwort can be commonly found on farmland, paddocks and on motorway bankings. Ragwort's poisonous qualities make this weed a serious hazard to livestock and horses.

We offer a treatment involving direct application of an effective herbicide. We can also offer hand-pulling methods where required.

Himalayan Balsam

Himalayan Balsam is a fast-spreading invasive weed which can prevent other plants from thriving and dominate land space. It is commonly found in many locations, including riverbanks and watercourses.

We treat Himalayan Balsam with an effective herbicide which can be applied from spring to autumn.

UK Government legislation states that failure to prevent the spread of invasive weeds can result in hefty fines. If you fail to prevent the spread of invasive species onto neighboring land, they may be entitled to take legal action against you.
